Tanzania, Without Compromise: Accessible Safaris and Stays for Every Traveler
There’s a moment on every safari — the one where a lion lifts its head from the grass, or a wall of wildebeest thunders across the plain — that people travel across the world for. For too long, that moment has felt out of reach for travelers with disabilities, seniors with reduced mobility, or anyone who simply can’t manage a lodge full of stairs and a safari vehicle with no way to board it.
Tanzania doesn’t have to be an exception. Between two accessibility-built camps and four fully guided safari itineraries, here’s how to experience the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire — on your terms.
Where to Stay: Two Camps Built for Barrier-Free Bush Life
Tarangire House of Nature — Sleep Inside the Park
Most travelers stay near Tarangire National Park. This camp puts you inside it. Tarangire House of Nature is a single-level camp with no stairs or lifts to negotiate anywhere on the property — vehicles drive straight into camp, and the accommodation is step-free from the entrance to your tent.
That matters more than it sounds like it should. Tarangire is famous for having one of the highest elephant densities in Tanzania, thanks to its sparse baobab-and-acacia landscape, and between June and September the park fills with migrating wildebeest, zebra, and buffalo — with lions and leopards following close behind. Waking up inside that landscape, rather than an hour’s drive from it, changes the whole trip.
The camp runs 24-hour electricity and hot water even out in the bush, and staff personally escort guests between tent and mess after dark — a detail past guests consistently call out as the reason they felt so looked after.
From $150–$180/night, full board. 🔗 Book Tarangire House of Nature
Serengeti House of Nature — 21 Tents on the Edge of the Serengeti
A short drive from Fort Ikoma Gate, Serengeti House of Nature is a 21-tent eco camp with en-suite tented suites, private furnished balconies, and campfire dinners under some of the clearest skies in East Africa. Main amenities are step-free, pathways are barrier-free, and — as with its sister camp in Tarangire — guests consistently praise the staff for going out of their way to help.
It’s an ideal base if your itinerary has you spending real time in the Serengeti proper, rather than just passing through.

Where to Go: Four Fully Guided, Fully Accessible Safaris
All four of the itineraries below share the same accessible foundation: wheelchair-accessible vehicles, adapted Toyota Noah transfers, trained guides, caregiver and companion support, and sign language interpreters on request. The difference is how deep into Tanzania’s northern circuit you want to go.
3 Days — Manyara, Ngorongoro & Tarangire
The essential introduction. In three days you’ll cover Tarangire’s elephant herds and baobab plains, a full day descending into the Ngorongoro Crater — often called the eighth wonder of the world, and home to more than 30,000 large mammals — and a final morning at Lake Manyara, known for its tree-climbing lions and closer-than-usual hippo sightings. Full board and private vehicle transfers included throughout.

4 Days — Northern Circuit: Tarangire, Serengeti & Ngorongoro
One more day, one more park done properly. This itinerary trades Manyara for real time in the Serengeti’s Seronera Valley — big cat country, where lion, leopard, and cheetah densities are among the highest in Africa — plus a stop at a Maasai boma to see traditional dance and learn how local communities coexist with the wildlife around them.

5 Days — Tarangire, Serengeti & Ngorongoro, in Depth
For travelers who want to slow down. The extra two days buy you two full nights in the Central Serengeti instead of a quick pass-through, including a dedicated day at the Moru Kopjes — granite outcrops famous for the Maasai lion pride and their own miniature ecosystems of hyrax, mongoose, and birdlife. You’ll also stop at Gong Rock to see genuine Maasai rock paintings before continuing to the crater.

7 Days — Tarangire, Serengeti, Ndutu & Crater
The complete northern Tanzania journey. This is the itinerary for travelers who want it all: Tarangire, a dedicated day in the Ndutu plains during wildebeest calving season (when the grasslands fill with new life daily), the Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, an up-close visit to the Serval Wildlife Sanctuary, and a final day combining the 80-metre Materuni Waterfalls, a traditional Chagga coffee tour, and a soak in the geothermal Chemka Hot Springs before your onward flight.

Why It Works
Across every stay and every safari here, the same principles hold: step-free access where it’s promised is genuinely step-free, safari vehicles are chosen so wheelchair users can board comfortably, and guides are trained to support travelers with reduced mobility, seniors, and deaf or visually impaired guests alike. Caregivers and personal assistants can join at any stage, and every itinerary can be adapted around specific mobility needs, medical requirements, or pace.
Tanzania’s wildest landscapes were never meant to be off-limits. With the right camp, the right vehicle, and the right guide, they aren’t.
