Kenya Beyond Sight: 7 Videos from Our Accessible Journey to the Kenyan Coast
In September 2026, Kenya Beyond Sight brought together travellers who are blind or visually impaired, travellers with physical disabilities and a traveller with albinism for an accessible road trip to the Kenyan Coast — Watamu, Malindi and Mombasa. Accessible Travel Kenya planned every route, stop, stay and transfer, with wheelchair accessible vehicles and disability-trained drivers. Here are seven short films from the journey.
The journey: Kenya Beyond Sight along the coast
Kenya Beyond Sight invited us all to experience Kenya differently — through the senses. From the flag-off to the Indian Ocean, travellers who are blind, visually impaired or use wheelchairs discovered the beauty, culture, wildlife and ocean of the Kenyan Coast, with Accessible Travel Kenya as the accessible ground transport and logistics partner.
Accessible attractions: Bombolulu, Haller Park and Malindi Marine Park
Which attractions on the Kenyan Coast work for travellers with disabilities? We visited Bombolulu Workshops in Mombasa, where artisans with disabilities make jewellery, crafts and wheelchairs; fed giraffes and met giant tortoises at Haller Park; and went snorkelling at KWS Malindi Marine National Park.
Wheelchair accessible vehicles in Kenya: our fleet
Muthuri, our founder, walks through the fleet: a ramp van with a wheelchair docking point, fold-down seats for extra passengers, and the 2019 Toyota Esquire for travellers with limited mobility and families who want to travel together.
Can a blind man identify cars by touch?
Four cars, ten seconds each, no sight. Julio, a blind content creator, takes on the challenge at PrideInn Paradise, Mombasa — can he name the Toyota Voxy, Noah and Sienta by touch alone?
How a blind traveller knows he’s at the coast
“The rise in temperature, the vegetation — that’s something you feel.” Julio describes experiencing Kenya’s Coast through his other senses: rustling palm trees, sea air and the smell of fish.
Travelling Kenya with a disability: in their own words
Travellers and carers share what the trip meant to them — giraffes, the Indian Ocean, new cuisines and getting into the water for the first time with trained professionals alongside.
Meet the Captains behind every accessible trip
Fuel and vehicle checks, a helping hand into the van, guiding a blind traveller: our trained, disability-aware drivers keep every journey safe and comfortable from Nairobi to the Coast.
