Best time to go

Weather: June to September and December to February for drier forest trails. Value: March to May and October to November, quieter but muddier; permits cost the same all year.

Good to know

  • Vehicles: partner 4×4 with pop-up roof, positioned at Kasese for the west; ramp vehicle to confirm before sale. Light aircraft (Entebbe–Kasese, Kihihi–Entebbe) boarding by lift or carried transfer, arranged with the airline; soft bags, about 15 kg.
  • Rooms: Entebbe guest house, Turaco Treetops, Buffalo Safari Lodge, Mahogany Springs Lodge · access profiles to complete.
  • Equipment and support: sedan chair for the gorillas; wheelchair, shower chair and commode through the partner; 24-hour WhatsApp support.
  • Communication and senses: written briefs for each trek and the boat; sign language interpreter on request; try-before-you-fly pack.
  • Pace: two or three nights per stop and a rest afternoon every three days. The Kasese flight replaces the 6–7 hour drive west and the Kihihi flight the road back from Bwindi, so no day runs over about 4 hours by road.
  • Limits and alternatives: chimp and gorilla treks are on foot in steep forest; the minimum age applies. The Kazinga Channel boat and game drives work for everyone.
  • New for 2027: The return flight from Kihihi is now standard, and Jinja has a free afternoon.
  • Route optimised for 2027: Flight to Kasese replaces the Jinja–Kibale drive; Ishasha en route to Bwindi; fly out from Kihihi. Gorillas close. Road time: 26 h road → 15 h road + 2 flights.
